Commencement talk by Carl B. Cook | December 10, 2021

"Following Heavenly Father’s plan for us requires faith. It requires humbling ourselves enough to put His will above our will. In other words, it requires putting off the prideful, natural man, as described in Mosiah 3:19. I know as we humble ourselves and submit our will to the will of the Lord, He will help us find and follow His plan for us."

Commencement talk by R. Kelly Haws | December 10, 2021

"You’ve learned to observe when someone around you is hurting and needs your arm or smile of encouragement. You’ve learned to love and serve those who don’t look exactly like you do, who have accents different than yours, who like different foods, who have different customs, and you’ve learned to love, understand, and treat each other not merely with respect, but with kindness and mercy. The world desperately needs that kind of discipleship."

"It doesn’t matter what your weaknesses are. Turn to the Lord, do your best, love Him and let Him pour His love and blessings out on you. Sometimes when it seems like things aren’t working out, they are actually working out in the best way possible. Sometimes God is putting the puzzle pieces in place."
Devotional by Jeannie Welch | October 5, 2021

"In the Book of Mormon, we have the messages of truth sent to us from God, which are essential to our mortal and our eternal salvation. This book is real, it contains the words of God to us, and it can powerfully bless us in ways we can’t even imagine."
The manaaki of our previous generations is with us as we move into the future. Our duty of care comes from the past and extends into the future, just like the covenants made between God and Abraham. This is probably the most significant way manaakitanga travels over space and time, and it is our responsibility to remember that and live lives worthy of this potential.
Devotional by John Welch | September 29, 2021

"Let's help Moroni sound his jubilant trumpet, as he heralds the dawning of a brighter day. The Book of Mormon, which Moroni brought, is in a class by itself. It declares and delivers, most clearly and beautifully, to the world today, the power and atoning love of Jesus Christ."

"The joy, happiness, and fulfillment we attain in life can only be proportional to the degree that we love others. And remember, my friends, love is sacrifice. It is through prayer that we put whatever load we are carrying down at the feet of Jesus."
BYUH is part of a far-flung system representing one of the many ways the restoration church has demonstrated a long-term commitment to improving a lot of humanity. The Lord lives all of His children, and the investments in humanity made across this enterprise are one of the Savior's gifts to the world.

"When Isaiah teaches us that obedience will bring us “righteousness like the waves of the sea,” he reminds us that we want our own righteousness, our actions, to be completely dictated by the power of heaven the same way the waves of the sea are dictated. This righteousness, obtained through obedience, will give us access to divine power."

"Each of you has gratefully heard Heavenly Father’s hope-filled voice whispering, “You can do this, and I will help you!” Thinking of all those we’ve just thanked, and with your diploma in hand, you may want to return to your home, friends, and family and somehow return what they’ve so generously given to you."
I know the Lord has much in store for each of us. I have felt this clear prompting as I prepared this message. God will work wonders in your own life and those around you as you apply the lessons you learned at BYU–Hawai’i. Reflect on your spiritual, cultural, and your academic, and career growth; and keep on growing.
